Analyst Jim Hall of consulting firm 2953 Analytics in suburban Detroit says the process to make the vehicles suitable for the United States, called homologation, will take about 18 months.

In April, Frank Klegon, executive vice president of product development, said Chrysler is looking at the task of homologating Fiat vehicles.

Last week, a source said a group of 20 senior Fiat engineers visited Auburn Hills to start merging the companies' product development.

i agree that the initial cars will most likely be rebadged as chrysler product. however, i am looking forward to the day that a FIAT badge is sold again on american soil.

and, i am hoping that the federalization of the Turin offerings don't cause substantial performance and cosmetic issues.

I just read this article on a pretty popular automotive website that said Fiat was going to turn Dodge into a sports car brand, Chrysler would try to take on Cadillac, and Dodge trucks would be spun off into their own company. Now, this is just me, but GM just got rid of Pontiac, their sportiest division, because it wasn't profitable, and Fiat thinks they can base an entire division on sporty? And as far as taking on Cadillac, especially now with the new Buicks, what kind of market share do they think they can get?

I have been following the situation, and so far I believe that this car will be introduced as a Fiat 500. According to all accounts, we should know by December 2010. I hope to be in line at the nearest participating Chrysler dealer regardless of the weather!
